U.S. economy expected to grow by over $60 billion.
On Wednesday, one of President Trump’s major efforts during his first term finally came into effect. The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is an update to the trading relationship between the three major North American powers and replaced NAFTA. President Trump stated that the agreement is “the best and most important trade deal ever made by the USA.”
Many of the new rules set in place by the pact have to do with modernization in light of the internet age (NAFTA had not been updated since 1994). USMCA also imposes strict rules in the auto manufacturing sector with the goal of returning jobs to this country. The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) estimates that the agreement will grow the U.S. economy by $68.2 billion.
